Longwood Baseball ended their season with a series win over
Radford. The Lancers won the bookends of the three game
Thursday-Friday affair. Thursday’s game one was a close 7-6 win for
the Lancers. After 9 total runs in the first two innings, the Lancer’s
brought home the winning run in the top of the the eighth inning
off a solo home run from Blagen Pado. In game two, the Lancer’s
lost 6-4 despite a ninth inning solo home run from Willie Havens.
The rubber match was everything you could want in a ballgame: a
close game with big innings and extra innings. Noah Campanelli had
a grand slam to give the Lancer’s a one run lead in the third, then
he had a two RBI double to kick off a Lancer rally in the seventh.
James Nelson ended the Lancer scoring in the seventh with a two-
run home run. Radford put up six runs in the bottom of the eighth
to tie things up at ten a piece. Both teams scored one run in the
ninth to bring extra innings. After a scoreless tenth, Ryan Perez got
on base in the top of the eleventh, and James Nelson hit a double
to left center to bring home the go-ahead run in Perez. Radford
went scoreless in the bottom half of the frame, and the Lancer’s
end their season with a 12-11 victory.
Sadly, Longwood baseball will not be going to the Big South
Baseball Championship later this week. That’s a wrap for local
college sports this school year. Have a great summer!
