Twin Lakes State Park is celebrating Black HIstory Month by hosting themed programs every weekend in February. The park was built by blacks and iwas one of very few recreational sites in the region that were open to people of color in the 1950’s and 60’s. This Saturday, visitors are invited to participate in a program called Testing the Waters. Those who attend this (miniature) dam-building activity will find out how the men who built the lakes at the park managed to do just that. Meets at the concession stand at 1 p.m. Then on the 16th,a program called Home Sweet Home will let you design your own dream park while exploring why so many African Americans called the park home in the 50’s and 60’s.
